After a lot of contempation and way too much over thinking I’ve decided to have a go at making a board. I’m going to be making a 4’10" x 21(ish) nose x 23 x 21(ish) tail x 3 mini simmons out of eps. The wide/thick/rocker apex will be somewhere between centre and 2 1/2 forward (been playing around a lot and come up with a few possibilities). I’m hoping to do a hull entry.
Before I get there I need to decide on a rocker design for the blank. It seems nose rocker on boards like this varies between 2 1/2" to 3 1/2" and at the moment I’m thinking the number 3 with no reason for it. For the tail I’m considering going with 1/2" so there’s something but not too much. Continuous curve.
I’m really just looking for ideas on rocker and whether I’m heading in the right direction with it. Also, looking around at the rocker on other mini simmons it seems there is usually around 1/2" of rocker left 1 foot off the nose, is that about right? I guess it’ll probably just work itself out if I just focus on a smooth continuous rocker?
Any feedback/experience/help would be much appreciated.
Probably should mention, I’m 5’10" and 165 pounds plus wetsuit. It seems like the board will come out around 40 to 45 litres. I always overthink everything. I’m hoping for it to work for everyday stuff, not necessarily on the better, hollower days (though it would be bonus). Beaches, points, whatever.
Thanks for reading this far, and thanks for any help!
