rocker from planks

whats the best way to get rocker from 2X6 10 foot long planks of wood?

is the answer a rocker table?

i dont have space for one, don’t understand what one is, and am at a point in my life where i need to keep it simple.

so what other choices do I have, to make rocker from a plank?

and how does one go about learning the proper technique for making wood surfboards blanks from solid milled wood?

jim phillips. got any info?

food for thought. link

it seems that as you glue your layers together, if you have

them curved to the rocker you want, your rocker stays after the glue sets…

i thought there was a more in depth thread by Rhino…

maybe someone can chime in???

my rocker table is just a wooden frame that sits on top of my shaping stand

I just add shims at each point to get the rocker I’m looking for.

You can use John Cherry’s technique to transcribe the rocker to a male or female piece

and then use that piece to determine where your shims go on your table…or cut a couple male pieces and use them to

create a mold that you can bend your planks over.

Are you planning on making a hollow board from planks or a chambered board from solid stock?

What kind of tools do you have? If you are making a hollow board then you will need to resaw your 2x6’s so they will bend. If you want to keep it simple, then go to you local mill and have them resaw the wood for your. A good mill will have a big horizontal band saw with a feeder track. It is amazing how fast they can cut the wood into thin strips. You will probably need to run it through a thickness planner or a sander afterwards to smooth it out.

Search for posts written by Paul Jensen for help with building a hollow board. I remember seeing one post by a guy that built a board using Pauls technique while staying in a Hotel room. I can’t seem to find it right now though.

thanks afoaf. im gonna pm you.

can i draw the rocker on each plank and cut it wiht a saw of some sort, maybe a jigsaw? and then line them up all afterwords and glue them up and planer them nic eand even?
