Rocket fish article

The old article from Surfermag circa 1977.Thought I’d put it up for anyone historically inclined.

Used without permission.

Don’t think it’s been posted before.Hope you enjoy it.

wow

a fantastic read

thanx for sharing

copied that gem to a document! thanks!

Thanks for posting. I haven’t seen that article in 20 years, at least. When it was published I was a kid

garage shaper obsessed with fishes, now I’m an old fart shaper still obsessed with fishes…

Hope everyone notes that the original Steve Lis design was very short and very thin, after all, it was a

kneeboard to start. By '77 that design had been supplanted by the thicker, blockier rocket fish, and the MR

style twin was just arriving, and the thruster was only 4 years away. Things moved so fast back then. If you

didn’t surf that period from '67-'81, you can’t even begin to understand. It was truly a special time and I feel

so fortunate to have been there.

Mike

I have that same mag at home… nice!

Would be nice having Magicman on this thread… are you there lurking around???

Check out the airbrush work on those boards.

Clyde’s glass shop has a few of the old twins in for a restore.

Thanks for taking the time to put those photos up mate.

I’ve just noticed what looks like the Tiger Fish on Mr. Beatty’s web site peeking out of the rack of boards behind.

Do you have any shots you can share of the boards Clyde’s doing nowadays ?

It’d be nice to see some.

Cheers
