Hi, just came across this planer, did a search and didn’t find any info on sways. Anyone try one of these for shaping? I’ve heard a lot of good info about the older versions, and kind of like the position of the grip on the this one. Just curious of everyone’s opinion on it…
The ROCKWELL® heavy-duty planer is a woodworker’s dream with its proprietary dual exhaust system for either left or right chip ejection. High-precision features include cast aluminum base, front micro-depth adjustment with ergonomic handle and two-finger trigger.
Dual exhaust system for either left or right side dust chip ejection port
Industrial cast-aluminum base with V-groove for chamfering edges
Powerful 7 Amp motor for higher stock removal and reduced scalloping
Ergonomic contoured grip design with soft-grip for added comfort and improved control
Lock-off switch to eliminate accidental starts
Micro-fine cutting depth adjustment for high precision stock removal up to 1/8"
Built-in kick-stand to reduce marring of work surface
Check the knob (and the price, of course) and see if it “clicks” hard in increments or turns smooth. Otherwise, it seems like just about any other typical planer with the added advantage that there’s plenty of room to get your hand in there and turn the knob on the fly.
Rockwell used to be a forerunner in professional quality heavy duty tools in the 50’s and 60’s and was absorbed by Delta. They are trying to come back in that market. Time will tell if they hold up to the old standards. Is the cutter carbide. or high speed steel? Is the cutter oriented in a straight line or spiral? The surfer from NJ. is right. Check to see if the depth adjustment can be modified easily. The sole plate can always be rounded off and chamfer groove filled in.
Howzit ace, I own a 1/4" electric Rockwell drill from the 50's that my dad gave me and it still works great, use it with tiny drill bits that won't stay in my cordless drills. Aloha,Kokua
