sheer beauty. a few of us might call it the most beautiful surf vehicle we’ve ever laid eyes on. it should be illegal to make these unless you’re going to give them away.
5’4" x 22"
all carbon with a little eps in the rails, i imagine
22" wide? I seem to remember hot controversy about anything flexi that wide
I like the way he has incorporated more modern rails that transition from eggy to hard down rails (looks like it from the pics, anyway) - some where between an edge board and a classic spoon. I’m guessing that the rocker is something special, too. It would be great if you could post some rail / rocker profiles.
Looks like Romo’s been thinking hard about flex evolution and has set a new standard for design that is a bit more updated than the old GG classics

hey red, how you been? i don’t remember a controversy, but if you’re doing the traditional velo-type spoon for long walls, big bottom turns and big roundhouses, wide is good. if you’re doing the more versatile, flexy, drifty edgeboard, narrow is good.
for a board this long in the velo style, 24" would be normal. the wider the board, especially the tail, the more it wants to slide out on turns = the more the fin bends = the farther it rolls up on edge = the greater the slingshot effect. but romo wants this for big fast beach and reef, incl. the wedge, so this is a little more sled, a little less saucer.
c.r., as you said hard to tell from the pics but I thing rails are soft round, slightly egged and they just get weee thin towards the tail. Just changing the amount of roll under the rails vs amount of flat across the middle will have a huge effect on how it rides. I could be wrong about the rails but the way those boards ride you want a rail that will be equally functional at any attitude to the wave even upsidedown so…
wow, there I was thinking that I was gonna trade in my longboard for a kneeboard so I can at least seem to get nearer the “tube” on our small but peeling waves, BUT now, this changes everything! I’ve got a 5’10" Frye Fish at the glassers, but I’m already thinking how to find me one of these sleek machines.
It is, indeed a fine looking water vehicle, nice work design attributes aside.
I was wondering how the flex is affected by using carbon fiber? I thought that cf was not as flexible as fiberglass. Or is that a misconception of mine?
