Rotator Cuff Tear / Shoulder Pain

I had a rotator cuff tear in my right sholder. I had read several postings and reviews of the book “7 Minute Rotator Cuff Solution” all over the place. People swore by this book. So, I picked up a copy at Amazon and followed it religiously. Today, my shoulder is 100 times better. It really worked. Just wanted to pass along my testimonial. It also has programs for injurty prevention and proper form of exercises. I originally order it from the publisher, but they never shipped the book (even after charging me). I checked them out on the better business bureau and they have an unsatisfactory rating. It appears that the book is out of print. I recomend picking up a new or used copy at Amazon. I have also seen copies available at InfiniteD.com. Good Luck to all!

While on a 10 day fishing trip in Baja,Sea of Cortez, I one armed a 50lb dorado bull on board our Boston Whaler, that was in june , it took 5 months for me to paddle my boards without pain. Thanks for the tip on the book! I need that one in my library. CFP

I blasted my rotator cuff into oblivion last winter working as a ski patroller the book helped get me back 100% fast!

no doubt, that book is THE bible for rotator cuff issues.HIGHLY recommend it.

I have terrible shoulder problems and do regular rotator cuff strengthening exercises but still end up having to go to PT often due to injuries. This book is $100 at the cheapest - anyone want to make copies of their book for me, for some cash? or sell me their book cheaper than $100? Any help appreciated.

Man, I wish I had that kind of remedy for my elbow. I think I hurt it pumping resin out of a drum about two months ago. Let me tell you, my elbow SCREAMS every time I pick up my planer the wrong way. I did a web search and all the diagnoses indicate something similar to tennis elbow (rather than the opposite, golfer’s elbow). My pain only occurs in one orientation, like reaching out to pick up a glass of water. I’ve done some stretches and it seems to help. Anyone had similar from shaping/building surfboards?

sounds great! Can you send me a xerox of the important parts? That would be great… wow! an end to my shoulder pain. Let me know

In some cases surgery may be indicated but this seems to make sense from a PT perspective… http://www.dolfzine.com/page391.htm

Great link John, thanks! I’ve been nursing this problem off and on for several years and lately it has become pretty painful. Mil gracias. Tom S.

Hi Tom - I just started feeling my left shoulder but don’t think it’s anything too serious. This guy’s program looks to be the thing for building up a neglected shoulder joint.

Guys, i know you all live for the surf and that, but rest your shoulders. That means no surfing, fighting, masturbating. You`re only going to make it worse.

dunks is right, if you feel pain, rest or you’ll aggrivate the probem. Ice rest and good PT, no surgery, you’ll be back in action. This comes from a person with over 100 full subluxations. Through the magic of surfing and masterb… I mean PT, and a good diet I no longer even have pain let alone dislocations. I have not seen this book but can imagine it has a gauntlet of shoulder excercises.

I have had surgery on my right shoulder for a Rotator Cuff and now fear that i will have to under go a second op on my left, I was out of the water for 16 weeks with the first op and will try anything to avoid a second op I have ordered a a pre owned copy of 7 Minute Rotator Cuff Solution from amazon.com and fingers crossed that someone out there has got a copy they would like to get rid of, if anyone has any photocopys or pdf files of the relivant pages that they could e-mail me that would be great.

sorry I forgot to leave my e-mail address,

Having been a competitive swimmer most of my early years and a surfer all along , as well as being married to an Occupational Therapist, I’ve learned a few things about shoulder problems (and I’ve had em’) Most serious shoulder problems surfers get (besides from wipeouts) are from impingement brought on by crummy paddle/stroke mechanic or muscle imbalance. Internal rotation, windmilling, over-extending, lizard stroke all trash your shoulders eventually. When your young you can get by without problems but as you age, look out. If you have crummy stroke technique all the exercises in the world are’nt going to help cause’ you’ll just re-aggravate everything. Muscle imbalance= Surfer/swimmers typically have too tight chest muscles which pull the arm out of alignment while they paddle resulting in impingement. Do the 7-minute Cuff exercises making sure to stretch your chest muscles Surgery= If you have a cuff tear (hole- typically in the supraspinatus ) you’ll probably need surgery caus’ these holes don’t heal and will only get worse. You can sometimes get by with small tears but these can become a timebomb if you stress them too much. If you can’t lift your arm up from your side you have a tear. Bursitis/tendonitis is real common is probably the major shoulder problem most people get. REST and anti-inflamm’s are the ticket. Avoid overhead reaching (paddling) repetitive movements til’ the pain subsides THEN, take it easy for awhile or risk re-aggravating the injury. These things can become chronic and last for YEARS if you don’t take your time. I had shoulder bursitis for 3 years and couldn’t paddle or swim. Lap swimming with fins finally fixed me up.
