Router heat glass?

Hey,

Just wondering if its possible to use a router to make your leash hole instead of a holesaw on a drill? I was just going to make the right size template. My only concern was that the router would heat the glass too much? or make a messy outline?

Anyone done this?

Works fine.  Sharp router bit cut clean and don't heat much.

I have ALWAYS used a router for leash plugs.    Per Greg, sharp bits, produces clean results.   No heating issues.

I usually use a plunge router with a forstner bit, set the depth, line it up and bam!

Thats great! Thanks guys...

I've tried using a hinge cutter but the hole is too big and it doesnt do a very neat job....

This way i can just get a perpecs template made and i'll be set..

Plunge router is best,I use a drill and holesaw to cut through the glass, then I clean out the foam using a trim router and a template I made. The reason for the drill and holesaw is I’ve had the router  bit try to grab when it first goes through the glass and it usually dicks up the install to some degree.
