Shared a small, fun post-Jeanne session yesterday morning with a longboard odd couple. One fella was riding what is unquestionably one of the finest examples of surfboard craftsmanship available today - a brand new 9’-6" Cooperfish - stepdeck, concave nose, perfectfully foiled at both ends, but with meat in the middle; basically red “indian blanket” glass job on rails and bottom, t-band stringer -beautiful. The sun glistened from the immaculately polished gloss! And his pal was riding a wood veneer popout made in a machine overseas by guys that don’t even surf. They were both good surfers, caught a lot of waves and had a good time. Then there’s me on my homemade 9’-6", patterned after a Mark Martinson “Predator”. Hand shaped, green/yellow acid-splash glassed under the house, painted-on pinline chipping off, slightly uneven rails -but definitely getting my share and having as much or more fun than anyone out.
Ain’t surfin’ and all great!!
