S.I.M.A.

I was just wondering what role S.I.M.A. plays in the industry. Do they act as a sort of powerful union or local? Have they instated a lot of policy in the surfing world? (to what extent?) Do they act as a watchdog for manufacturers (and for consumers - for that matter)?! I know a manufacturer must do a substantial business before being admitted to this association. So, what?!..are these boys surfing’s answer to the masons?!

Who even knows what they do? All I know is that they call the shop once a year and want us to “donate” a free board to their black tie event that I can’t even afford to attend. “Waterman’s Ball”(sic) Watermen have bar-b-ques with their friends, not phoofy tea parties. Hrrmph.

Ever wonder what they do at their gigs? serve"Scotch In Massive Amounts" hence the name.

Pop was 33rd degree S.I.M.A. will admit you for the price of admission, they do send out a hot sheet to manufacturers and retailers that are members. It has on it businesses that are late on payment and how much they owe. (Was acct. turned over for collection, etc.) It helps others from making the same mistake, but it is usually small guys like us that get burned. The big 3 have good enough legal staffs that they can afford to make it a pain in the butt to burn them. They have a legal staff to help also, but you gotta pay to play. http://www.JimtheGenius@aol.com
