SA04 & SA05 were a lot of fun and a great chance to meet up with people.

I’m liking the idea of something in the south. Maybe we could start switching between NoCal and SoCal (or Baja) each year? Just a thought.

a while back some folks mentioned mexico.now that the “secret” is out, how about “la jolla” in mainland mex?!(ha-ha!)

how about rent and taking over the Baja Surf Adventures camp for the week?

I spent a week there once but it was flat as a pan cake…

and the water was cold…

I caught it good. Its close to san diego, which is a plus. And lots of parking. ha.

don’t know if it could handle 40 surfers.

I know a couple of spots near my home in mexico (jalisco) where you could have the whole place (literally) to yourself, if you were really serious about mainland mex. Big open beaches, plenty of room to spread out and camp, nearby town to provision, mellow locals, safe, etc… Not the most convenient destination for the majority of swaylockers, but it would sure work for me! I’m going to be down there later this year anyway!

But yeah, I know… not everyone can run off to mexico for a sways gathering… Just like I can’t run off to california for one either.

So, any other votes for mainland mex, south of puerto vallarta?

I tried searching Google Earth for “Jalisco” and came up with a totally land-locked place, nearly dead center of the entire country. Puerto Vallarta is at the Eastern-most extent of a big West coast bay. There is a large cape to the South that appears to be capable of taking swell from many directions. Are you on that outcropping somewhere?

I grew up in La Manzanilla, near the bottom of the map. Did most of my surfing a little north of there. Mostly beachbreaks, but there are a few interesting features along there if you look hard. biggest thing for me is the lack of crowds. Nothing world-class like further south, but again, no world-class crowds like you find someplaces in michoacan. In fact, between vallarta and manzanillo, there’s only one place where I’ve ever seen more than five people in the water at once.

If we could find someone who is Military, or ex-military, we could use the group spots at church ( San Onofre Recreation Beach)

We stayed their w/ the Santa Barbara Surf Club for a January contest . Beaches

One of the nicest things about a tour of duty at Camp Pendleton is the Pacific Ocean. Del Mar Beach, at the southern end of the base, and San Onofre beach to the north, offer miles of magnificent surf in the heart of Southern California.

Cottages and campsites with electrical hook ups are available to rent by sponsors and spouses only at both beaches. The cottages have one to three bedrooms, all have kitchens and TV’s and many have fire rings. Each beach has a bath house and lifeguards are on duty year-round

OK, thanks. I was thinking the site was closer to what I guess is Cabo Corrientes. Just out of curiosity, are here any decent breaks in that area? Sure looks like there ought to be…

Only one I know for sure is Quimixto, ENE of cabo corrientes, about midway to PV. Never surfed there, but heard about it. I’m planning on a dirt-road exploratory trip on that whole length of coast (corrientes-el tecuan) this time down, got a couple of leads that sound interesting. No big undiscovered points, but might be a rivermouth or two without anybody else around.
