Curious to know if I'm the only one disappointed to learn the next Sacred Craft show will be held in conjunction with the Action Sports Retailer's convention?
By teaming up with ASR, the SC Show has jumped the shark and lost it’s cred.
Besides that, parking is a real nightmare at the SD Convention Center.
no youre not the only one. i was considering coming out from the east coast for the august show, but now i dont know. i have always percieved sacred craft as a ‘core’ show, and i think joining the asr show has added a flavor of commercialism that i dont like the taste of.
It's a business, and the owner of the business can do whatever he wants....
Look at it this way, the presence of all the underground/alternative shapers is sure to piss off the corpo guys in the big hall.

I don't know how things are with the ASR shows now as basically I seem to exist in a different space/time universe, but back in the day when I attended it was a hard ticket to get...glory-hungry guys in the parking lot would practically offer their slag-unit girlfriends to get a pass. How is that supposed to work now? Will Sacred Craft be a separate ticket or just an amusement for the psuedo-elite? I can't imagine the latter would be the goal given the tone of the previous events...
The corporate guys could care less. But there will be those less than scrupulous corporate types who are so fly by night that they have to BS there way into and pay full Price for ASR admission who will come over to Sacred Craft to rip-off your latest idea or design. I was at the recent Sacred Craft in Ventura and it was like a mini ASR show with Vaudeville. It was cool to hang with a few folks and talk shop, but it was still VERY ASR. A few people lamented the change. Al Merrick, Rusty and Oneil are not threatened or pissed off by the presence of some underground shaper! If anything you will soon see your latest design with their logo on it in the near future.
For one, I’m disappointed. It was a breath of fresh air to get away for the intensity of the regular shows … a relaxed setting without the hangers on. A throwback to when the the shows were about surf instead of beach. Hope Scott scored the mega payday. And yea, parking at ASR SUCKS!!
Jumping the shark is perfect.
Nels brought up an interesting point; I would not be surprised if the ASR attendees get a free pass to "Sacred Craft" but not the other way around..
Oh well, It was fun while it lasted.
Anything But 3 will be where it's at now ...........
Yeah that kind of blows, Sacred craft is now a sideshow to a corporate circus.
How many shapers can you fit in a clown car?
Hmmmmmm.
I saw it from day one.....Where were you?...
I've been to a few shows.....good stuff.... Great reviews...Everyone had fun....No harm no foul.....
I hope Mr. Sacred Craft does well......
You want hard core??? Go to a Fish Fry or a "Anything But Three" event..Go to Big Sur....Plan your own event....
I don't need ASR or Sacred Craft.....It can be fun.. It doesn't really matter...........................

Ahhhh...I suspect there might be some serious entertainment to be had if the ASR show excludes the Sacred Craft attendees...and possibly more if they don't! Will Sacred Craft have fun beverages available? The whole thing could be epic if enough crusty oldtimers and open-minded younger folk get their "groove on", so to speak. Could be pure "Animal House" parade scene fun.
Not that I personally would advocate having fun when there's so much money to be made...
I used to spend thousands and thousands of dollars there as a buyer for Surf'n Wear then later O'neill's. That was before they charged for this spectacle, and the parties OP had were the bomb.
Times change.
It's the era of branding now, and the age of corporate greed.
I wonder how well the Cobra Factory will burn outside of Bangkok?
I'm too busy doing customs and supplying new accounts to be bothered.
Tune in, turn on, drop out?
