San Diego Living

Hello everyone. I apologize as this is not a thread about surfboard design but I could use some advice and this forum seems to give good, sincere advice. So, I’m in the process of trying to move into the San Diego area and am not very familiar with the area. I’ll be looking at renting a one bedroom or a studio or renting a room out of a house and can spend upwards of $1000/month. What areas should I stay away from (since when you look on the internet at apartments, the pictures make them all look nice)? Any suggestions on specific areas that might have what I’m looking for? I’d like to be somewhat close to the ocean to surf but anythings better than the two hours I have to drive now to get to a mushy beach break. Thanks in advance for the help.

Matt

Do you need to be close to anythhing other than the beach?

I would suggest Ocean Beach, Pacific Beac or (far north) Oceanside, for decent prices next to the ocean.

Thanks for the websites, any extra info helps. I’ll probably need to be within driving distance of downtown San Diego as thats where my job would put me. And I end up driving 45 minutes into Philadelphia now so the traffic and a drive arent really what I’m worried about. And being close to the beach would be a great bonus.

I’ve just found it difficult when moving to new areas to really have handle on where the best places to stay are. When I moved into Wilmington where I live now, I stayed at a place for about 6 months that wasnt the best but once I was around for awhile, I knew of several places and found one that was nice.

Again, thanks for the help. I’ll be coming out that way in Jan. to look around and do some surfing so I’ll check out some of the areas you are mentioning.

it would be the best for you to come check it out before making a commitment. I have a room you could crash in for a weekend or so. pb, ob, or a little north would be good (little bit of a comute) to dt any way good luck. pm me if you need a place in the interum.

Thanks for the offer to have a place to stay for a couple of days but I think I may try and do some camping when I’m out there in January.

And I completely agree about coming out there to check it out before making any commitments. I’m gonna look around some when I’m out there in January just to get some ideas. I’ll be out the 14th - 19th if you or anyone else would like to meet up for a surf. Thanks again.
