Sandboarding Anyone?

Hello All!!

Me and my friend recently discovered sandboarding on some of the small dunes by his house. We went out on an old snowboard, but immediately saw that it wasnt too good for it. Does any body have any tips on sandboard construction? Something thats capable of craving and doing turns and airs on. I’m sure some of the creative geniuses here have something to add to this post. Any help would be great!

heres a discussion from about a year back …

a few bits and pieces in there …

in west oz , the dunes are insane , due to a 30 knot seabreese every afternoon in summer …

ive seen whole dunes move a few meters overnight …

most of the mid west coast is highly mobile , perfect for this sport …

but now im living on the goldy , you think i can find a decent dune ???

missing this so bad , so are the kids …

which is a real shame , weve been a few times on pathetic little foredunes which hasnt been much fun or a challenge , but the sand is sickly fast , so i would love to find some big dunes on this side …

regards

nice boards Bert !

…does Fraser Island have some big dunes , maybe ? [I think that’s the island that is all sand , yes?]

cheers !

Are you getting waves on the goldy at the moment ? [Onshore here every day for the last week . And flat , as usual … ]

moreton island has the sickest dunes ever

you can see them from 100k away in caloundra

never really got to try sand boarding though

also north stradie has got some decent dunes as well i think

but moreton has really long runs

theres a great dune in the Hokianga harbour in northland NZ

There’s also some really sick dunes just south of townsville… its about a days drive south along the coast from cairns… It still baffles me how sand stacks that high… although I didn’t get to board down them, I used a plastic saucer sled… was so fun and yet so dangerous…

Fraser Island is a long way north. Moreton is more do able. and there might be some on Bribey Island too.
