Tired of drunks, deadbeats, and disappearing acts?
I’m a part-time sander looking to go full time, and further expand my glassing and colorwork abilities.
I have built boards and done ding repair and restores since I was 16, so off/on experience of 26 years (yes, I’m no spring chicken). I shape too, but am nowhere near production level speed, though my finished shapes are good quality. I shape under the label Salted, and under Contraband before that.
I love surfboards, design theory, and the process of making them.
I come from a construction background, where I specialized in finish carpentry of curved stairs (bending handrails). This ingrained me with an attention to detail, and hand working skills far above the average. Unfortunately, it is also back breaking work that makes the physical labor of board building seem like a long nap in an easy chair by comparison. I had to find a way to keep from destroying my body so…
I put myself through college while doing construction, it took a looooong time. I have been working for years now at Hewlett-Packard as Technical Analyst, but I still build boards at night. I’m coming to the realization that I’d rather just build boards. Computers are for the birds.
Seeing the level of frustration across the industry with finding and keeping talent, I decided to put this feeler out there.
If you want someone who not only can “do”, but can learn, and CARES, doesn’t party, doesn’t have an attitude, and who loves the art of surfboard building, I’m your man.
