We are looking for any trained sanders in the bay area. Needed for at least 8 boards a week- poly and epoxy, clear and color. Must be reliable and available to work afternoons, we will pay TOP DOLLAR for quality work. Must be capable of sanding for gloss and polish and sanded finish, proficiancy with glass on a big plus. Some training is available but must have experience in the industry. Hotcaot, pre-grinding and fin work available too if interested. Email info@sunsetshapers.com with questions or for more info.
8 boards a week? That’s less than one days work for a good production sander.

So true.
Ok so whats " Top Pay" for a good experienced sander these days?
…hello Atomized, that s true only if you sand with one grit on boards intended for gloss coats and with glass on single fin or with boxes.
Not true in case you sand to STAY with the hot coat or do speed finishes, and on multi finned glass on boards; plus channels and other sort of stuff that you will tweak here and there
We take our sanded finish boards to 600 then “polish” them with a compound and abraisive pad. I have heard many sanders say that they can sand a (short)board in 30-45 min but have yet to find one who can do it consistantly and with good results- thats with future boxes and no fancy contures (only about 50% of the boards we do meat that discription). If you want to know pay rates please email me, I’d rather not disclose that info here. I will say that if you can do eight boards in one day and make them perfect you will be living very comfortably in San Francisco with plenty of free time.
Thanks for reading, hopefully we can find someone.

when i used to work at big surfboard factory the sander would get 20 bucks per board and it didnt matter what size or shape the board was, he would sand up to 320 then scotch bright the board and be done, definitely not the most fair situation
Yeah, sanding an all glass on 5 fin bonzer or a six channel will slow one down quite a bit. Still, 8 a week… Say you get paid $20 to $25 a board. That’s $160 to $ 200 a week. A friend of mine was making $60K to $70K a year doing piece work sanding back before the recession hit.
Absolutly. As you say before the recession. Guys who worked for one very busy factory or split their time between two or three factorys made very good money. A glasser who could lam two sides and hotcoat one; did pretty well also.
It’s a day of work. Someone might need it. I’d do it but im not in that area. Maybe I should move. I can do 8 boards a day, and I’d have all that free time.
8 boards a week? does your idea of ‘living very comfortably’ in San Fan involve a tent?
At $100.00 per Board that would be $3200 a month before taxes. Not sure if that would mean living in style in The Bay area or not.
You'd be better off if you hired a couple of Mitt Romney's former gardners and trained them. They're probably looking for work. In fact; I think I saw a couple of them hanging around the Home Depot parking lot a couple of days ago. Just don't run for office for "Pete's sake".
Howzit artz, I don't think there is a sander out there that makes $100 a board and if there is I want to know what copany he works for so I can apply for a job there. I don't mind sanding at all and at that price they must pay the laminators a real bundle. Aloha,Kokua
