sanding after lamanation

hey guys. i have some questions.

when im repairing surfboards, should i sand after the lamanation stage or just skip that? i saw for exmeple that fiberglass hawaii does sands after lamanation- as you can see in their video. but others like moura surfshop (the guy that have 100k views on his ding repair video on youtube) dosent sand after lamantion.  what is the best way for that?

I don’t like to sand after laminating a repair,  it just gums up the paper. I hotcoat extending out over the lam a ways, and then when kicked just sand and blend the entire area in. Gloss, wet sand, buff and done.

Whether or not you can or should do this depends on the resin you are using.  Poly — No.  Epoxy—Yes, but should not be necessary.  I’ve done it with Epoxy, but only if I thought my lay-up of fiberglass cloth was sloppy around the edges and I could get away with feathering it a bit before the hotcoat.  .

im using only epoxy resin. so bottom line, its waste of time?

Provided you get down a nice tight layer of cloth —Yes

and if i use for exmple 2-3 layers of cloth? i think i do that with masking tape cutlap.

by the way, if i wont sand after the lamantion and sand only after the hot coat i will end up with alot of burnthorughs ?

If you are worried about burn-thrus;  sand it by hand.  You shouldn’t be doing work sloppy enough that you have to get on it that hard with a sander.

OK thanks i will give it a try. anyway it can be nice if fiberglass hawaii will comment here and share with us why the sanding after lamanation.
