Any harmful health problems resulting from Polyester sanding dust on the skin besides the 24 hr itch? I try to suit up properly, but am sometimes exposed
Not that I’m aware of… not on the skin. You don’t want to enhale it, though. That’s for sure.
It's not too bad on the skin but breathing it is the issue. To prevent the itch, try applying lots of baby powder before sanding.

Cornstarch works well too, and is cheaper. I would use cornstarch in my socks and boots, when doing high volume production shaping, long ago. (60's) Learned it from the sanders, at Hansen.
its not the resin dust that makes you itch, its the fiberglass in the dust,
if your good you should not be itching,
in other words dont hit the cloth when you sand
Kensurf, I don't sand through the cloth. Next sand job you do, brush the underside of your arm up against the dusty surface of your freshly sanded hotcoat, and tell me you dont itch. I'm pretty sure It is the dust from the freshly sanded resin that makes me itch
fwiw, as a backyard hack I’ve sanded 80 some boards, most of them shirtless, wearing just shorts, slippers & respirator. Never itchy. I would add that my shed is 6’ x 14’ … and before sanding, I hang tarps on 3 walls to help contain the dust (or paint spray as in the photo). I come out completely white, go out to the yard, and the kids jan ken po to see who gets to blast me with the garden hose

Smoking ,drinking, fried foods ,loose women, fast cars, big waves, sharks , extreme sports.......
Sanding dust is really low on the list of things that can kill you.....
Live large...take a cold shower after sanding.
Astevens
I do it all the time , handling the boards durring sanding, I guess I have thick skin and not very sensitive. I’ll bet the guys who sand and foil fins get real itchy. You may be allergic, who knows?.. wear sleaves and be safe,
Howzit Astevens, After a few hundred boards you get immune to the dust or at least I did. The only time I have had he itch was about 15 years ago when I was sanding the inside area of a boat and the area was so small I had to sit on the sanded glass dust and got the butt itch for about 1/2 hr but then it went away and I really fround the dust into my okole.
