Sanding down glass fin for hull center box

I recently bought a Liddle 7’8" Hull…unreal board! Greg sent me a 8.5" volan fin and I am having trouble getting it into the center fin box…real tight squeeze and hard to pull out when it is in there. I don’t want to break the fin either while pulling it out. Can I sand the base of the fin down to give it a looser fit in the fin box. What grit of paper would I use? Thanks

What grit of paper > would I use?>>> Thanks mask off the area above the tab that inserts the fin box. Wrap some 120 grit paper around a small piece of wood and sand a little of each side till you get a a good fit being careful to keep it flat. It’ll only take a few minutes. Good Surfin’, Rich

Don’t sand too much…Dialing the fin location is a time consuming bitch. Greg recommends that you don’t use a screw until you’ve found the right location. With the tight fit, you can rock the fin back and forth to move it around while you’re in the line up. It’ll be stiff enough to not move while you are riding. If it’s too loose, you’ll have to carry a screw driver (or quick change bolt which is still a pain in the ass). I found out about this way too late which added weeks to dialing it in. Once you’ve got the locations determined, sand it like Rich says.

matt, are u riding your new v-bottom? where did you get it glassed? Flo-the V is getting glassed as we type(Waterman’s is glassing it along with a simmons-type board Paul made as well. Can’t wait to ride ‘em!)I have been riding a couple of round tailed boards- a 7’4" Liddle and a 9’ PG made.

Matt, i talked to PG about the simmons’ he made out of two blanks, it sounded so radical, can’t wait to hear from you how it performs…

Matt, i talked to PG about the simmons’ he made out of two blanks, it > sounded so radical, can’t wait to hear from you how it performs… Flo- I hope it performs half as radical as it looks-could very well be the all time, down-the-line screamer! One thing is for sure-it will get into waves long before anything else does.

matt, keep me posted when you give it a go!!!
