sanding pad adhesive

I have been informed that the sale of feathering disk adhesive is no longer allowed to be sold in the state of California. Feathering disk adhesive is the glue that holds the sand paper to the sanding pad disk on the electric sander. Does anyone have any suggestion for a substitue for that glue?

Hi Tony,

I went through all this a couple months ago, the feathering disc adhesive is still allowed, it cannot be shipped so some places cannot carry it, but some builders have the suppliers drive the stuff to their shop.  If you are "in the business" there is a vendor who still makes it and will bring it to your shop.  If you are a garage/home guy, there still might be 3M "Feathering Disc Adhesive" on the shelves at tool stores like Tool Mart or Tool Depot, etc.

Spray 77 works in a pinch.  PM me if you need specific sources.

…3m super 77

Yup - spray adhesive on pad and disk, wait 2mins, attach.  You get a better bond like that, and the sanding disk won't suddenly come loose and fly across the room like a throwing star.

I quit messing with the glue-backed pads because they don't stick too well after you take them off to switch grits, then switch back.    Hook & Loop is where it's at.

If you like the 77, try the ''drywall corner bead'' adhesive by 3M, I think it's # is 61.

you can get the cheaper version of 77 at home depot…it’s justa spray adhesive.

spray 90 if you don’t ever want to remove your sandpaper.

lol.

…I dont know that adhesive

but I have been using s77 the last 15 years and its excellent in my opinion

I tested the super 75; and doesn t work

the super 90 like HS say, is for ever…

I dont wait nothing (after apply the ad) with the 77 and I dont have any residue of glue

cold weather or hot

I use a barely coat only in the sandpaper

I admit I've never used contact cement as a substitute for disc adhesive where you heat it up and it releases to change paper. I use it for more permanent applications. One of my boatbuilder friends (who's always making ''special tools'' for specific jobs) showed me the other product and said he liked it much better than the super 77. I've used it and I agree. He and I may be a little obsessive about our adhesives :)

I use Gorilla Glue for a lot of my ''special tool'' stuff, but you have to wait for it to go off. It's permanent as hell, though.
