Sanding pads

Gonna buy two pads for my sander to speed up the process and hardship of sanding/shaping. Curious, since I can only afford 2 pads, which two would be the best for me to invest in?

Thanks

I just bought my first pad - the red 8" medium from South Shore Mfg. From what I understand, alot of people do their whole board with a medium pad, and i didn’t have too much trouble with mine.

I think the South Shore site recommends a medium and soft pad - medium for the flats, soft for the rails.

I was fine on the rails with a medium pad and my hand. I think the soft would help in the concaves more than anything.

Keith had some pads for sale…

Aloha Mke, If you are going to be building a lot of boards then get at least 1 of every pad both 6" and 8"  since you will use them all. The only thing s the Fero pads can tear easy and the power pads will warp if dropped. I can even begin to think how much I spent on pads, but Iused them all and was glad I had them. Start with at least a hard and soft 8"power pad and a soft Ferro 8". If you are doing glass on fins you will need a 6" soft power pad. The Ferro pad works great on rails. Aloha Kokua

hey rich: if you need one fast, i think revchem sells power pads. i bought a few from them about a year ago. i’ve found them to be a pain in the ass to deal w/ since they’ve moved though.

Thanx for the tips on which one to use where Kokua. Valuable info.

I called Larry late Friday. I’m sure he’ll get back to me when he has the chance.

Back to the fin shop, Rich

…can afford only two?

if you live in USA a pad has got a fair price and compared with what a person earns in a labor day is nothing

also, a pad lives perfectly well about 30 boards then you can still use it for another 30 - 50 if your cheap

-for sanding, power pads are best

for gloss ferro pads are best. You ll need a super soft

also a 4" (because of the weight) super soft ferro pad is the only pad that you can polish the gloss in the rails without using hand sanding after that (to get rid of squareness)

Larry,

I seem to recall some time ago you providing contact detais for your Power Pad dealer in

Australia..?

Is it Burford blanks...?
