Anyone know where I can get flexible sanding screen? I have some older stuff that is real flexible, but I don’t remember where I got it. All the stuff I find lately is rigid and brittle. When I bend it around the corner of my sanding pad it cracks. The old stuff was flexible and wrapped around easily.
Are you experiencing unusually low humidity? I've had sandpaper and screens stiffen up when the humidity goes low. One thing you can do with a stiff screen is take it in both hands and pull it back and forth tightly over a rounded piece of foam a few times, kind of takes the kinks out. Do that before you try to wrap it around a block. Another thing you can do is take a piece of foam rubber the size of your screen and use it as your "block." To help keep it in place, I use a piece of felt between the rubber and the screen, works kind of like velcro.
I get mine from the Home Depot rental department. The vibrating floor sanders have a 12 x 14 inch screen that comes in different grits. Either that or drywall sanding screens. when they get old and dry they stiffen
some of the sites that sell board building supplies will have them but if you want to spend less go to the hardware store...also 120 grit sandpaper does a decent job
Yea… the big round sheets can be cut into squares, to give you more cutting surface.
I've bought sanding screen many times at Home Depot, Lowes, and a few online stores. I know where to find it. My problem is not finding it. My problem is that all of those sources have stocked sanding screen that is too STIFF. When you bend it around a sanding block, or pad, or wrap it around rails it tends to crack and not be as flexible as some of the screen I bought a few years ago. And like a dummy I don't remember where I got that flexible sanding screen.
So my question is... does anyone know where to get more "flexible" sanding screen than the typical drywall/flooring stuff found at HD or other similar stores.
both fiberglass hawaii in venture and fiberglasssupply.com have good sanding screen. both have 8 1/2 x 11 sheets and the 4" wide that you can buy by the foot. i really like the stuff.
you can loosen up your screen by running it back and forth over the corner of a rough cut wooden board or something similar. i think use makes the screens more flexible and easier to use.
What grits do you need? I've got some good stuff I could send you.

The Japaneese screen cloth is the best (220 Brown). Very hard to get. Everytime I get one all broken in an loving it disapears. Since I moved my shop I just use the Home Cheapo Stuff. Klingspore is the best for my sanding blocks.
Everyday's ideal is not bad however I'm going to put my order in for Japan. Spoke Shaves, Sreen Cloth, Pull Saws, Hand Planes. Japanees tools just have a feel that makes your work that much more enjoyable. It's funny how something as simple as screen cloth can give one enjoyment? At the end of a shape taking the screen and doing the last fine tuning of the rail. No hesitation! Japaneese Screen cloth so simple yet so rewarding.

You know... my old stuff is brown. Maybe it's that Japanese screen? Seriously, it is way better than any of the other screen I have bought from various sources.
