Thanks to alll who came down, I saw many Swaylocks folks in the crowd. We raised over $10,000 to send to the 12 Baskets food bank in Gulf Port, Mississippi! Extra big thanks go out to Doug Haut(3 boards!), Billabong Santa Cruz, John Mel, Ralph Hedrick, Tony Mikus, Mandala Surfboards, Cowell’s Beach Surfshop, Arrow Surfshop, David Anderson, Stacy/Lovely Designs, Thomas Campbell, O’Neill Surfshop, Paradise Surfshop, Doug Weymouth/Blanco Basura, Osh Barlett/Oakley, FCS,Surftech, the Brouwer Family,Wil Jobson, Strive Surfboards, Michel Junod, Boots McGhee, The Rio Theatre, Cindy Sandberg, Eric White, Patrick Trefz and the Malloy Brothers.
Extra notable was and worthy of praise- We had a door prize only for the kids at the event: a 5’2" grom board donated by Doug Haut- only kids received tickets to win. The winner of the board was Vine Hill School fifth grader, Makena Brouwer. After hugging the board for a few minutes he told us he want us to auction the board off so we could raise more money for Hurricane relief. After asking him if he was sure (and he was) we auctioned the board for $500. Makena, a Santa Cruz Junior Lifeguard, is a young man that the entire community can be proud of. He is the son of Duke and Denise Brouwer and, obviously, a very well raised young man.
