Saucer Fin ?

I hv shaped a 6’8" Saucer and was looking for some recommendations on a center fin for smaller wave days.

Set up as follows :

2 Side Bites + One Center box.

Rounded Pin Tail.

I hv used a 7 inch cut away in the box for up to 5 feet.

Works well, but the smaller surf its a lil stiff.

Wanted to loosen it up.

Any ideas or experience.

Does anyone make a short board style fin for a box ?

Thanks,

Covesurfer

Attached photos are of the board prior to glassing…

If you have a “regular” fin box, you could probably find an old fin or three, for free, and shape 'em down. Or, you could make your own.

The board looks nice - you could “tri” most anything. Ha! Taylor

Back in the 70’s, W.A.V.E. SET had what they called a “finger fin” (or was it FINS UNLIMITED?). As the name suggests, very narrow, very short and very straight (no rake). Sorry, I can’t find any photo. That fin had no drive whatsoever but was very loose… You might make one like it.

Can’t help you with the fins, but like that shape. What are your dimensions?

covesurfer,

You don’t say if you’re using side bites with the cut-away fin but, how’s about trying your cut-away without side bites and moving it up in the box a ways. Or, even try a shorter cut-away - say 6" - again, no side bites - but still toy with pushing it forward.

Check out: www.trueames.com for a good choice of other options. They make a very nice fin.

Don’t know how things went through twice - very strange day on the computy

I’d suggest 3 strongly installed finboxes, so you can ride it single, twin, tri, widowmaker, sidebited, or assym.

All with woodies, center a 10.5 Chinook strongbox, sides 8.5" Chinook strongboxes.

Then go play with fin setups.

try something like this, $5 on craigslist:

Cheyne’s Starfin is a must try in this board if it has a standard center fin box. A Greenough 4A is a good choice and depending on the demensions of the board of my templates the Mental at a about 7.75" would work quite well, if you can ever get any fins from the Halcyon shop.

No Worries, Rich

Hey hows it going…I have about 3 different boards that are 2+1’s. It is a great versatile setup, single, twin, 2+1 thruster. For the smaller days and to ride a thruster setup I got the true ames overhang fin. Template I have is exactly the same as another futures set… http://www.trueames.com/surf_select.php?surf_products_id=16&surf_categories_id=&surf_subcategories_id=

Thanks Rick, I’ll send them to you soon.
