so alot of supply places claim that the delivery people charge more to deliver to a residence and less to go to a business…like foam ez,they claim its because its easier to get the truck to a business instead of neighborhood roads, its funny if you order anything from any other business its no problem…but to get a blank its somehow harder to get the truck to your house? well any way has anybody ever just tried saying your house is a business…even if its really not? i mean how can they tell, plenty of people really do have business at there house…when ordering they ask home or business…you say business…just make up a company name then give your home address…anybody tried?
I use to have blanks delivered to the Vocational School where I worked, and the shipping co. that Clark Foam used tried to charge me for the residential rate. It took a few phone calls to convince them that delivering to the school was just like delivering to a business. Real big drive way overhead doors, and all sorts of other trucks delivering all types of good on a weekly basis. They just don’t get it. They’ll try to get away with whatever they can!
FedEx employees get 75% off…find one, and make friends (like i did)
I can assure you if it is being shipped by a common carrier on an ltl (less than load) basis then you will be charged residential rate if you have it delivered to a house. Lying does not work. They will bill you for the extra if they don’t get you at time of delivery. Bottom line is to get the business discount it has to be delivered to a commercially zoned address. I deal with this stuff daily and they are not flexible. Make a deal with someone you know with a business and track the shipment so you can be there the day it arrives. The thing to keep in mind is the extra charge is not dreamed up or created by Clark Foam or what ever company you are purchasing from. This charge is a result of the commercial carrier who is handling the shipment and delivery. It is common practice and a fact of life in any business. There are a lot of hassles delivering to a house like narrow streets no loading dock no one around when they show up etc. etc… These things result in delays and time is money!
See if there is a warehouse in your area. FedEx has a drop point about five miles from me. If you can manage it, you’ll save some dough by picking it up.
We order blanks from Clark and they are shipped by a trucking company (Averitt). We pick them up at the terminal. It saves about 50%.Just get a quote for “hold at terminal”.
