SBC build - cheapest (triple stringer) surfboard

well I used up some old spackle someone left at my place, and then glassed the thing… 5 oz bottom, 6+4 deck… you can sorta see the glue line (at bottom of pic) where the chunk went back on, but overall it looks better than I would have thought.  Needs a fin and hot coat still…

what is spakle?

ive read it mentioned on a thread or two, but not sure what it is, im in australia so we may have a different product?

Spackle is used typically to fill nail holes and other small flaws before painting…like the walls of your house. It comes in light weight versions. Some people use it on Eps to fill between the beads…others use epoxy with microballons or similar…

seemed like a good idea at the time?

heres the roughed out redwood fin…will be a 9 inch once cut down, but leaving an extra 3/4" or so of base helps at this point

epoxied… also another fin I am considering as an alternative for this board… Big Bamboo thing…but it cost me a dollar to make, whereas the redwood one was only 50 cents…

Ach ha!!!

It’s all those $.50 fins that let you save up for a trip…  Ha!

If I sold all my boards, I’d be lucky to make a trip to Cresent City…

Great looking stuff by the way.  And don’t tell Patrick how inappropriate I am on here…   ;-p

Nice looking fins!

Are you going to add a bead of resin to the fins edges?  If so, then please include a lot of pictures of that step.

probably won’t put a resin bead on… that would add another 45 cents worth of resin, ha ha.  here are the fins with a layer of scrap 6 oz glass added and cut lines marked.  decided I’m going to stick with the original plan and use the redwood one…  save the bamboo for more of a noserider type board, next time I shape one…

Next photo would be of you cruising on it.

dawn patrol, nobody to take pictures of board in action…but here it is, waxed up and ready to surf…sanded gloss finish, so not too shiny… I may buff it out later?
