What have you guys done to re-finish scratches (not cracks) on polished glass–without making/sanding a dull patch in the polished surface? Any tricks? Is it possible to fill shallow scratches without sanding? Styrene maybe??? Or do I have to go through the whole process of sanding, filling, sanding again, polishing, buffing…thanks for any tips…deeb…
Deeb - Get out the wet and dry sandpaper…I usually start with 280-320 (depending on depth of scratches) - If you’re lucky you may be able to sand to the depth of the scratch without exposing laminate weave. If you expose the weave, sand an area around the scratch and mask it off. Apply some finishing resin and feather it out, working your way to 600 grit, then polish. If you were able to sand out the scratch without exposing the weave, just leave out the resin application part. For polishing I use 3-M orange rubbing compound followed by white (fine grit) compound. I’ve had some restorations turn out very nice using this technique.>>> What have you guys done to re-finish scratches (not cracks) on polished > glass–without making/sanding a dull patch in the polished surface?>>> Any tricks?
