Scratches in gel coat

I have scratches in my gloss finished board, the board is 8 months old ,scrathes are really not noticable to any one but me .Is there a compound that ican use to get them out,? Thanks in advance.

polishing compound and buffing pad

but that depends on how deep the scratches are.

you may need to step it down with wet/dry paper,400,600 then polish and buff

If the scratches are very light try giving the board a few coats of marine liquid wax and then buff. Try a small area first to see if it works. if not then plishing compound and buff as above.

If the scratches are very deep then super glue or clear nail varnish will give a qick cosmettic fix, or you can sand a little, wipe on styrene, then imediately wipe on some resin with agloved finger, then sand and polish up.

It will just scratch up again, and you don’t want to make a habit of sanding and polishing your board more than once. If you do, you’ll just see weave instead of scratches very soon. Go to Home Depot and get the fiberglass polish they sell where the bathroom fixtures are, it comes in liquid or a spray. It doesn’t polish out scratches, but it has some oil in it which cosmetically fills them in kinda like that colored car wax does. It will make the board slippery and easy to drop, so don’t over do it.

I agree With Pete C but don’t get the cheep stuff from the hardware store. Get proper marine liquid wax from a boat yard or order on line, from the boat care section. works like a car wax but is resistant to UV and not so easily remove by sea water. The good stuff is expensive but it will last a long time and is well worth it.
