sealing eps

I know it has been talked about a lot but I was wondering if spray acrylic will seal an eps blank? wouldn’t it be lighter than spakle or microballoons/epoxy? Does anyone use anything different?

Thanks Joe~

We used WATER-BASED acrylic mixed with white glue and shot it through a touch-up gun and it worked.

I’ve just done it, but not sprayed, i used a squeegee, it seals it but it weights far more than lightweight spakle and paint doesn’t fill the big holes where some of the eps sphere came out, so when you glass it you’ll see all those small darker holes under the glass…they’re also hard to fill with epoxy… but paint is just much more cheaper than microballons or lightweight spackle, take a look:

Yeah, I agree with Flavian-san, it is quick but not the lightest. I’d only do it on higher densities where there are little or no voids between the eps cells.

For lightness, that micro-lite spackle is the best. Q-cell and epoxy made super-thick like cake frosting is a close second…
