ah to be in New Jersey when some semi decent swell is coming. Well i was super amped cause it was sunday, the wife wasnt around, and i was finally going to put my 6’6" rounded pintail i finished about three weeks ago to the test. I had ridden it in waist high junk but now we had some real waves to give it a whirl. I saw some people getting thrashed on the inside bar, and being that i am lazy and my arms were sore from surfing the last four days, I figured i would just jump off the jetty and i have a nice dry hair paddle out. I do it all the time, never any problems…until today. I pick my spot, think everything is cool…wait for a wave to pass by and surge up and then jump out like normal…kerchunk. hmmm, that didnt sound or feel good. So i paddle out to the lineup and then assess the damage. Just to let you know this was my first time installing fcs fins, and as you can guess all of the front three plugs pulled out allowing the trailing edges of the fin to go through the glass into the foam. So i have to prone it in , people probably thought i was afraid of the waves, mighty embarassing. Also, dinged a rail off the hidden rock also. Now I have the fun task of fixing all of this, which is not pretty. I am thinking of just routing out the plugs, lamming in some foam plugs, and then just glassing on some fins, I am much more proficient in this. Still had a good day though, and an even better dp this morning. Oh and it is a blue resin swirl, so matching colors will be oh so much fun.
I snapped the tail off a 6’8" single fin board while jumping off the jetty in Ocean City, NJ @ 7th street in 1985. It was a March morning and some ice formed on the jump rock. I slipped and landed right on the rocks. The fin almost took my nuts off. Embarrassed, brusied, and pissed. I had a broken finger and a cut face too. I didn’t even prone it in. I crawled back onto the jetty, with help from the other surfers, and walked back. Now that’s poor form. Then someone does the exact same thing and falls onto the rocks. Then everyone walked back to the beach and paddled out.
where were you surfing?
Glass on for sure! Though your board would be way worse had you glass-ons!

I was in loch arbour…just being lazy, i would have made it out no problem, i just didnt feel like paddling. At least it gives me something else to do until my blanks come in.
Is this Mike from OG…
If so, I met you Tuesday or Wenesday Eve at LA. I checked it Sat evening and it was big and looked fun bu closing out mostly!
Sucks about your board. Josh’s blanks should be getting here in the next week or two.

Sunday was ridiculously crowded though, i have never seen so many people dropping in on each other. so now i gotta get some glass ons…and I just placed an order with fiberglass supply on thursday…maybe ill just make my own. save some money. you should have dp’ed this morning drew, nice and clean and not to crowded until around 7 am. then the hoards arrived.
DP’ed in my home town.
PERFECT.
Crowds are not a factor.
See you this week mebbe!!!
