Section Maker - Eagle, Fishsimmons, or ????

Aloha All,

Looking to maybe shape or pick up a Eagle or Fishsimmons. Or something else that might be able to make sections like a steam roller. Personally partial to the fishsimmons. Wondering if anyone can give some direct feedback on how a fishsimmons or eagle rides? This is for far outside Pops on the Oahu south shore. Searched the forum but found only a few threads. Mahalo in advance for any info.

Talk with Daniel at the Surf Garage…I have seen some nice Christianson’s in there…

Hi airboy808 -

You don't mention lengths but it sounds like you're on the right track.  Anything with a lot of planing area combined with efficient rocker, foil and fin(s) will likely do the trick.

The Eagle model is a nice glider and gets in to waves easily.  The downside is that the rocker isn't very forgiving.  On the bigger boards it pays to make use of their ability to catch waves early.

Several San Diego shapers do designs that are very similar to Frye's without the price or exclusivity... Chris Christenson, Larry Mabile and Josh Hall come to mind.

I’d go talk to Keone and George Downing and see if they could make something custom for you.

I’ve been thinking about the same but for Castles and outside Publics, and I think Downing would be the right place to go. No one knows Waikiki better than George.

Will check out Downing shop. Checked his site seems to have a nice line up but no fishsimmons. Seen some CC stuff before and it looks pretty good but his prices seem to have risen to the same level as some others out of SD.

Talk to Quigg. He's made some beautiful combination surf/paddle boards.

looks fun

Out of the price range. But would love a Frye. Would be like a family heirloom pass it to my son and then he can pass it on. New one here in local shop shaped in 2001 is going for 8k. Nice 11’0 eagle from Frye. Crazy. Honestly any Frye is out of my price range.

Looking at Mitsven or Pavel or Hall.

Anyone should be stoked on a custom Downing.  Sharkcountry makes a very valid point regarding GD's knowledge of Hawaiian shapes of all types.

That said, this pic of a 9'6" Mabile big fish looks pretty slick.

Lyle Carlson makes some really nice boards .

Checked out L.Carlson stuff. Pretty nice. Seems well diversed.

Think I am zeroing in on what I am wanting and looking for. Thanks to all.
