Done my resin tint and have just hot coated the bottom of the board. I can still see the weave of the cloth clearly and wonder why? The board is a sky blue with a white mixed through. When I did the lam it wasn’t the warmest of days and I don’t think I put enough catalyst…approx 1%. Was worried about it going off to quick when I should have done anout 1.25%…I think. Do you think it’s just because it went off to slow or is it the colour choice?
Do you mean the texture of the cloth is showing through the hotcoat, like the surface is still rough and weavey?
Or do you mean you can see the individual strands of the woven cloth through the clear hotcoat?
If it’s just an aesthetic thing, no worries. Probably pulled the lam a little dry, or it soaked in to the blank, so color was left in the strands of the cloth with gaps in the spaces in between. As long as the cloth is stuck down tight everywhere, and your hotcoat filled all the empty places, the rest should just be cosmetics. If you set it off too slow, it might have soaked into the blank.
Yea, just an aesthetic thing. I think that what you said about the resin soaking into the blank is what has happended. Looks like the resin has soaked through the gaps leaving the spaces between the weave. But it has stuck well and the hot coat has done it's work. Yet another lesson learnt! I'll do a gloss coat over the top of the hot coat, it might take a little more of the look away.
Thanks for everything, I wish I new about this place 12 months ago!
