Thinking of getting a one of these for bigger surf…what’s the difference?
The true semi-gun follows the lines of a real big wave board, while the fun gun is more closely related to a speedier fun shape/longboard.
although there is not complete consensus amoung surfers, designers, and shapers about descriptions of these three boards you could describe them something like this … the semi gun and gun are very specific designs with specific functions the semi gun may vary in rocker and other specifics designed for optimum function at a specific surf spot or for a type and size of wave, but it is not designed for a wide variety of conditions the big wave gun is much the same with the focus on very large surf the “fun gun” is a versatile design that will vary significantly in dimension and may be surfed in a wide variety of conditions and size a fun gun is typically a stable board with good surface area throughout, smooth -continous rocker, length and foil to carve in significant surf, and surface area and volume to cruise in small and moderate surf
Can anyone recommend a shaper that makes a good fun gun? I assume most shapers could if you tell 'em what you want? Any shapers stand out as far as fun gun boards.
my only board for the last year has been a 7’2" rndpin about 19 3/4" wide and 2 1/2" thick. nose around 11 1/2 tail 13 1/5. ride it in everything, for me these board offer the most versatility of anything. next is 6’9" version.

Rusty’s Desert Island is widely stocked. Harbour has the Drifter… it seems like the longboard fun gun is a functional shape that is catching on. With removeable side bites and a couple of center fins, you can cover a lot of conditions.
