set the bar high or low question

…I do not understand this thing very well; I mean, for me, is set the bar LOW the right way to say this phrase not the way all use it. You know, lowering the bar increase the difficult to pass under…

or the quote is reference to another stuff?

Its like the .002 cents for me is used the other way.

Low -hard for Limbo.

Low-easy for Pole Vault/High Jump.

And vicey versey.

I just woke up and am having trouble discerning sarcasm, so I  will answer this truthfully. To raise the bar is to set the standard fro greatness higher. To set the bar low is to make it easier. If I am an idiot please bash me with proper sarcasm.

Phrase of the Day,  raise the bar

(verb) to set a higher standard for other people to follow

Example Sentences:

The Olympic athlete plans to raise the bar by setting a new World Record for her sport.

When the new professor entered the university, he raised the bar for the others because of his superior teaching skills.

…yes fellas, I m refering to the Limbo stuff

I think the meaning came from there (?)

We don’t limbo here.  Think high jump or pole vault.

Or amusement park, where you must be “this” high to ride.

Funny though.  I was reading some of your posts from years ago.  Your English has gotten much better.

The guys that post on here using English as a second language amaze me. Understanding idioms is a challenge, I would imagine. About the only idiom I know in another language is je ne sais quoi. If that qualifies as an idiom...

…so the consensus is for High jump or like that and nothing about limbo…

In my opinion, all these types of quotes are somewhat “new”; all post WWII stuff, but may be Im wrong.

-regarding languages; I can read in 3, also read written music and some computer languages but the problem is with the grammar in some…you know, lots of years since school teaching days, so conjugate phrasal verbs, adjectives, past tense, future tense, etc sometimes I just forget or fast typing

but I can understand pretty well all, included sarcasm, etc

I think there is an evolution here.   It starts with:

Should I raise the bar or lower the bar?

Then moves to:

Should I just go to the bar?

Finally:

Which bar should I go to?
