Seven Fins? Has he gone mad!

In the three attachements to this post is a Freeline custom that’s so far is my ultimate challenge to fin for performance.

The board is 7’9"x14.5"x22.25"x17.5"x3.0"

I finished this set-up for it today. Just to put things in perspective, the fins on the board front to back measure 1.875", 2.75", 5.325", 6.0". All the rail fins have concaved inner surfaces. The center is rigid.

The board is so far out of the box that it’s always fun to ride because everytime I try something new on it I get surprised. I don’t know what’ll happen this time out but I thought you-all would get a kick out of it.

By the way I hope this will give you a little inspiration Herb. It’s always been clear to me that your heart is in the right place. I’m behind you all the way buddy.

Good Surfin’, Rich

…Rich, that’s a wild stick…good job!Let us know how it goes,

…Thanks for the props…things should get better for me,it might take awhile.I have been collectively prioritizing what’s real-ly important…to me,and what needs to be done…Herb

its ok halycon…being mad is an important criteria for inspiration and a willingness to step into the unknown , check out these mad pics…i was building these boards from 89 to 91 built somewhere between 1200 & 1300 of them …

ill post the pics , then ill give more of the story on the next post…

i was building these boards under the barracuda label ,shortly after i started in my first business …id previously had a factory and showroom ,but had no idea about expenses and decided to go back to basics and try a different approach…

i was working out of a 20’ by 20’ shed in my backyard ,i was shaping and sanding, another guy was glassing, had 2 guys who came in as a team and did artwork, and a grom cutting out fins ,cleaning and helping out who ever needed it …all of us were packed into that shed , i ended up buying a secondhand shed to put up , that relieved the congestion a bit …

i had no extraction system ,no ventilation,no cooling except a sprinkler on the roof …i built a sealed room in there ,i used it for shaping and sanding, with no ventilation ,used to get so cloudy with dust i couldnt even see the board i was sanding???

the whole show was total chaos , the worst working conditions imaginable …

but some how we managed to put out 10 to 14 boards a week , one week we did 18 boards out of that set up…i used that for about a year before my next factory…

the boards in the photos were 6 channeled 7 finned boards…

they sold like hot cakes coz of the hype factor…

at one stage we were 400 boards behind…

there was a flyer at the end of each channel and on the later ones we were doing flutes on the deck joining up with the channels…

i laugh when i look back at these photos …i must have had good neighbors…

At least Burt’s wearing approved foot wear. Mike

lol …

i still wear my trusty safety thongs to this very day…

i hate working in shoes coz you get slimy feet and it takes 4 or 5 waves before you stick to your board…

theres no way youd work with smelly toxic itchy stuff and not go surfing each day…thats probably why i surfed so much ,get the dust out…

these days i sand with out a mask my extraction system is that good …

BERT

lol still

Something I found on the net: 7 fins.

I, for one, see room for a few more fins…ambrose…
