Hey guys new here and need some help with shaper uv powder. Want to turn it into liquid and shapers say I should add 175ml of styrene monomer but wana no how much powder do I add. Also have read that uv isn’t good for hot/gloss coating. Be awesome if you guys could give me a few handy tips and tricks using uv.
If it’s a quality UV powder then there’s no need to liquify it. For the chunkier, cheaper ones it’s good to break it down so it will mix with the resin completely. Just add enough styrene to liquify the powder. If you have 10cc of UV powder then mix in another 10cc’s of styrene and add as needed.
UV is the simplest lay-ups and hotcoats ever. Best kept secret in the Surf Industry. One day board if you want 'em. THE solution to cold weather. I still don’t understand why every one tries to complicate it. Glassed lots of blanks at the “Chicken Ranch” up on the Central Coast. No Uv box and overcast in the AM. Never had a problem.
since i start shaping/glassing my boards i use Sun Cure UVC 2000. i never mixed it with styrene. it comes with a measuring scoop and it’s so easy to use it.
what i do is to put a lil bit more powder, for exemple instead of 75% of the scoop i put 85%. mix it 5 min then let it sit for a while (few hours) then mix it again.
i use it for glassing and hot/glosscoat. who told u that u can use it for hot and gloss?
for the hotcoat after brushing the UVresin i let it sit for about 10-15 min before expose it to UV/SUN.
if the total amount is for 20L… measure how many grams it has and divide per 20L
