Shaping Class in New Jersey

A Surfboard Design and Construction course is being offered at Brookdale Community College, in Lincroft, New Jersey. Registration is now open for both the March and May sections.

This hands-on course covers many design and construction basics, as students participate/collaborate in the building of a single board over four consecutive nights.

Lottery determines who takes the board home at the end of the course. Final sanding is left for the lucky winner!

I am good on the class, just curious are you teaching it?

Yea… we haven’t met minimum enrollment yet, so the session might get cancelled. The deadline is the first week in March, so this is a last ditch effort to get people to sign up.

i would if i could make the classes but i am just to far away.

Im interested! Do you have dates, and costs? Any other details?

March 16-19, 6-9pm. Another session runs in May. Registration is open for both. I think the cost is $199, and you get to throw your name in the hat at the end for a chance to win the board. It’s a good time.

Check out www.nynjsurf.com for more details. The number to call to register for the class is 732- 224-2315.

When is the deadline to sign up for the shaping class?

After some quick negotiations with the college, the registration deadline has been extended to March 11. As of Tuesday (2/24) the class will run as scheduled. Seats are still available for both the March and May sessions.

Thanks for inquiring.

that’s awesome man! i’ve got class down here in salem county, but let me know about the class in may. i’ll definitly be interested when it’s summer

The class in May runs from the 18th-21st. Registration is open now. You can call 732-224-2315 to sign up. It be offered again in August.

If anyone attending this would like to write a review of the course and have it posted in our Reviews section at www.eastcoastsurfer.com , we would be glad to host your words and photos. It may be useful in getting people to sign up in future classes.

Great idea… thanks for the invite. Things are finally starting to build a little grass roots momentum. We had a burst of enthusiasm when the Asbury Park Press ran a story last year. But after that bubble popped, things have gotten sluggish. I don’t know if it’s the economy, or that we’re expecting a foot of snow, or what, but the fall/winter sessions have been sparsely attended, at best. Summer sessions are always filled.

But times like these make me feel like… well… people don’t give a crap about board building. They just want to go grab something slick off the rack somewhere and spend the day at the beach. And there’s nothing wrong with that at all. But on my end, in my head, I feel like people are missing out on something important. Here at Sways, there’s an appreciation for the skills and art of building beautiful, functional boards. So I’m just preaching to the choir. I’ll shut up.

Thanks again.
