Hi, I’m thinking of building myself a set of moveable shaping lights on stands so that I can utilize different spaces in my 2 car garage. I was wondering how effective a set of free standing lights (1 support on either end of each light) , with light directing shutters would be, as compaired to lights that are mounted on opposing walls ( like in a shaping bay )? In other words, will shaping lights, not located in the close quarters of a shaping, be effective?? Or will the light beams be too undirected?? Any ideas or answers would help. Thanks.
Hi, I’m thinking of building myself a set of moveable shaping lights on [snip] i’ve seen this in “garage shaping rooms” [smile] (if i’ve read correctly). using an 8-foot flourescent bulb/fixture, with a sort of “horseshoe” mount at each extreme end of the fixture, and a “shade” on top of the fixture (running the length of the fixture). i would recommend mounting one fixture on a side wall, then you only have to contend with one “mobile” fixture. the best lighting is always at just slightly above the level of a blank - shadows are your best friend.
I used portable lights for five years! they work fine, can tell no difforence now that I have a walled shaping bay.
one side of my shaping area has portable lights. works fine. i hung a blue tarp around that side which helps too. the best thing is before you commit to the height, plug your lights in and move them up and down until you fig out the best positioning. a couple inches up and down can make a big diff.
