does ne one knwo wehre to find or how to make a shaping stand …im learning how to shape and wanna get or make a stand to shape with ???
2x4 in a 5 gallon bucket…
Make to X’s with 2x4, connect the legs.
Or go space age and check the archives.
Or forget the 2x4’s and stack two buckets ontop of eachother, one stack per stand, and put some foam over the top. You can’t really do anything to your rails very effectivley, but it works as a stand if you’re dying for one too much to make one with the two by fours.
Are you saying it’s too much money to make a stand with 2x4’s or are you saying its too high technology for you to understand HOW to make the stands?
Either way, if it’s above your head, you should definetely NOT be shaping or glassing, as the skills are waaaaay over your head.
Take your time and make good stands. Good tools = good work results. I agree with LeeDD, if you’re not enough of a craftsman to make a pair of stands, you probably shouldn’t be shaping. There’s a lot of photos and plans in the archives including very simple yet functional types.
A pair of old crutches, saw the tops off, bend the metal down and cover with rubber tubing.
Stick the legs into buckets and fill with cement.
Adjustable and light…
USE THE SEARCH FEATURE LUKE!!!
I used two sawhorses for my first boards. DON’T DO THAT!!!
invest in the time to make a suitabale rack for shaping and then one for glassing. It might take more time and you’ll think that you should go out and start shaping your first board instead, but resist that temptation and shape a rack before even buying a blank.
lots of shit in the archives on shaping racks.
All your questions have already been asked. All your answeres have already been given. Now go find them.

I used one saw horse for my first set. Nailed the 2x4 “Y” on each end. Worked fine. Now I use the concrete tub racks. Well, one is in concrete, the other sits on top of a Christmas tree stand cuz the concrete cracked.Mike
Did someone say crutches?
They’re actually a little too flexible for shaping, I have to clamp a couple long strips of wood to them to stop them rocking back & forth. But they’re great for glassing. I’ll probably make a shorter pair out of steel for shaping when I get a chance…
I never found removeable stands solid enough for shaping, since the forces required a solid plateform with an 6lbs planer cutting into a 8lbs blank.
Always tied both pieces together, then tied it to a full length platform, which could be moved with a tow truck.
Best to tie it to the concrete floor directly, drill a hole, stuff a piece of 1" steel pipe into, concrete around.
