I remember seeing a diagram showing the proper measurements and procedure for building shaping stands. I was just wondering if anyone had this diagram in their possession? I searched the archives and was unable to find it.
The reason i ask is because I’ve been using my friend’s shaping stands. Unfortunately, he took them back, and all I have are some sawhorses.
Saw horses will do, ironing boards, 44 gallon drums, piles of bricks, a 1950s table, anything to keep the blank up off the ground and covered with something that won’t harm the blank…
and I think that 1970s “surfboard design and construction” book had a diagram too , from memory ? [if I can find where I put it …oops] try a “search” under THAT, perhaps , J !
This is my glassing rack made from a sawhorse and some scrap metal tubing. You could make something like this out of wood. You already have the sawhorse…
search shaping rack ,shaping stand ,shaping room ,work shop.
Most guys use old buckets with cement and wood. Me crafty has a cool shaping stand made from a Christmas tree holder.
i have and it seems like a lot of other people go down the five gallon bucket filled with cement and a main post made of a 4x4 with some 2x4 pieces on the side.
if you look up show us your shaping stands you will find a bunch.
