…now that the foam dust has settled and the whine of the planer has quieted in my ears, I’m relieved to find on the shaping racks a triple stringer 12’1" surf/paddleboard…The process to find the board that I had in mind within that monster of a blank took some time…About 4 hours to template-skin-thickness-rocker-top&bottom rough shape & rails…It’s amazing how much longer it takes to do a 12’er compared to a 9’er…Today I glued on the nose & tail blocks…I think there is about an hour to fine-tune the nose & tail and screen the rails…What is on the racks is 12’1"x 20.25"…N-13.25"…T-11.875"…Thickness 3.375"…Pictures to follow, after glassing…

can’t wait what kinda rails ya put on er? …Nose - chop-cutter rolled rocker transitioning to a forgiving upswept rail. …Mid-section - Flat bottom easing 2" from rail … rail more boxy than 50/50… …Tail - 3/4" flat vee panel starting 4’ from tail … rails pinched …
Let me know where you gonna surf the monster. I’ll just stay out of the way and take pictures. Good Surfin’, Rich
Let me know where you gonna surf the monster. I’ll just stay out of the > way and take pictures.>>> Good Surfin’, Rich My take on the “monster” is wait to add nose and tail blocks until you are COMPLETLY DONE, once they are on , any cosmetic changes are so difficult to do with them in place. When I do “beasts”, over 11 feet, I spend an entire day on them. I look at them as big performance boards rather than planks, aircraft carriers and the other pet names there are for them. Not all of the really big guys are kooks, some are extremely skilled surfers, just very large. Wayne Coombs at Mai Tiki in Fla. is a 6’9", 300#? and my best pal “Big Steve” is 6’3", 340#. Steve surfed Waimea in the 60’s, was one of the pioneers of Peta Calco, and still can slap a lip. Big guys can shred, shape them good sticks.
