Shaping

Almost finished

with shaping

my first board

It is easy to underestimate

the

Difficulty

of carving foam

I can see the flaws

but

in my efforts to

fix them

I create more

Anyone more

Perfectionistic

with

my lack of skill

could

easily find themselves

left with nothing

Cruel sidelights, mocking

Truth, hiding in the shadows

Chase that bump you fool

My father was a carpenter

as was I, for a while.

So many ways to say

Good Enough.

"Can't see it from my house"

"Good 'nuff for guv'ment work"

"Fuck it man, nail it."

Fuck it man, Glass it...

Just doesn't have quite the same

ring to it.

Give it your best shot at something with which you'll be happy but recognize the concept of "diminishing returns."

It's not like you need to worry about tolerances to the ten thousandth of an inch.  Water is stupid.

have been have similar thoughts  started my first board this week  while i was thinking about it I had a thought  it doesn’t matter if its not prefectly symetrical only one side is working at a time

Haha, I had the same thing going on for the last week shaping my first board. I started feeling crazy from staring at my shape, moving lights around, watching shadows, running my hands over it. I couldn’t sleep one night so I got up and then really went crazy in the dead or the night, shaping and staring.
