I have ideas on how to make this work and keep it relatively fool proof.

Waterproof battery compartment, glassed inside the board with only the cap showing for battery exchange.
Maybe only a charging port with some kind of waterproof cap? this way you can put everything under the glass, even the switch (a mini push button, can it be pushed from above the glass and still work?)

I think it's called induction. The way one charges a cell phone by just laying it on a mat. No wires or plugs.
