Just off shore from Lanikai…Over the last 5 or 6 years this zone has gotten thick with tourists. People paddle kayaks and surfboards etc over to the Mokes(a couple little islands a few hundred yards out to sea…)
I doubt if this photo will be shown in the media…especially on Oahu…but I reckon it should be!
Is that the guy who was attacked
Who worked at JC Hawaii ??
A guy in my town was recently attacked by a white and also another guy i grew up with in the next town had the same thing happen.
Despite the tourniquets, it appears he has exsanguinated.
Guys, there are some things, words, ideas and indeed images that are not safe for work or even general public viewing.
The image above fits that category of innapropriateness, I have young boys that love to check out sways but this is not what they should see, and hopefully no person ever needs to see this. I know it’s “real life” but ithere are plenty of sensational, ugly, sites that thrive on shock and horror images and videos.
The post is relevant, the pic is not for this forum.
Agree with surffoils. No need to post such images in this forum. As mentioned, there are far worse shark victim images online for those inclined to look at them. This forum is for sharing information, and pics like that don’t qualify.
You said it right, when you said it was disturbing. It IS difficult to ‘‘unsee’’ something. Make me want to poke out my minds eye! But, sharks are a fact of life, for surfers. I’ve been in calm murky water, and felt a sudden swirl of water near my feet. Spooky. I’m sure it was a shark. That photo brought back that moment of terror. We all have the power to not look, but it is hard not to.
Yes, gross. However very educational. We are all in the ocean and most people here would be willing to help someone in this situation. See it here and you won’t be barfing on the sidelines in real life.
Yah, thats tuff to see and get out of my head. I saw some emergency room photos of a guy bit up here a few years back. I don’t know how you survive something like that. He did. Maybe a photo like this can change a few minds about controling populations in some areas. Use nets. Areas where human beings depend on the ocean for their living. Leave them alone in sanctuaries(where I live) and thin them out elsewhere. Mike
There is the guys story. He fought pretty hard for his life and actually ripped out one of the skark’s eyes.
Here is a pretty neat link to a researcher at UH looking into tiger shark migration patterns between the islands. They have put trackers on several sharks and can monitor their paths through the islands.
If you follow the links you can see where the sharks they tagged have been geolocated.
Picture makes me want to go shark fishing. I wonder if Tiger Shark is as tasty as Mako Shark is??? I’d bet Great White is good on the grill with butter and a little lemon pepper seasoning.
