Can someone please tell me the best & cheapest way to ship a 9’ board from Florida to California? A friend of mine wants me to make her one and send it out. Thanks!
a while backsomeone suggested greyhound
Howzit ssanders, I believe it was Cleanlines that mentioned using Greyhound. Send him an e-mail for more info.Aloha,Kokua
Also check with Amtrak (website & 800 #) for lower rates than by truck. Your board will be considered oversize but underweight. John
Thanks, i’ll give them a call!
if you decide to make one to ship save the rail cutoffs as they make great packing material…
my method is to wrap the board in bubble wrap, then tape on the rail cutoffs to the rails of the board. then i buy a sheet of 1/8 doorskin ply wood ($11) rip it in half trace the outline of the the board top of one piece and trace the bottom on the other, cut out the new outline and then tape em down. lots of tape and lots of bubble wrap… makes it very hard for punctures to penetrate into the board…
i like dhl, call em with your dimensions and tell them you want the slowest rate (i think it is 4 or 6 days) as all the online quotes are for 1 or 2 days…
The rail cuts are a great thing. Also use them to stack like cord wood against glass-on fins… We ship quite a bit and this just happened to us:
and the remarkable thing is that the boards were not damaged. We use 3/8" thick styro sheet (4ftx8ft) from the Homer at $4.75/sheet, and fold it in half like a ‘taco’ around the board. You can see two of the “taco-ed” boards in the photo. It is a good idea to write “NO FORKLIFT” on the container along with “Caution: Glass Product Inside”… …we tape-wind the board snug inside each taco then put boards between each wrapped board; ie. a box of 5 boards will have 3 with tacos. HTH.
