shipping a quiver. FL-CA how much???

headin to baja in December. Planning on shipping about 8 boards. Largest is a 7’6" . I have been looking at FedEx-UPS-DHL-USPS. Very different fee schedules. HAS anyone here found the best/cheapest method of shipping a box like this. I was thinking … 8’x24"x36"… just need to find the box. I will be shipping from melbourne,fl to San Diego. (the 7’6" is the only board over 6’6" and might be taken on the plane if it blows out the shipping cost.) thanks guys for any feedback.

?? bump??

8 boards will require at least 2 - probably 3 boxes, if bubble wrapped for protection.

If in Melbourne, go talk to Fiberglass Florida in Rockledge. They probably could sell you the boxes and you could talk to them about various shippers to call that would beat ($$$) the shippers you mention - most of whom won’t ship boxes the size and potential weight you’re looking to ship - plus their prices will be about the same whether you’re shipping 1-2 or 3 boxes.

Good luck and have a good trip.

look in to freight forwarders.

basically, they coordinate where shipping trucks are going, how much space is available on them and such. Rates can be very reasonable. You will want to make sure that your stuff is well packed and you’ll have to drop it off at the freight forwarding location; often load it on to the truck yourself and arrange to have someone there to sign the paperwork and pick it up off the truck at the depot.

the added hassle might not be worth the money you’d save.

a google search will turn up tons…

ship amtrak they take boards up to 50 lbs for about $65.00 each way. pick up at the station in san dog. it takes 4-5 days but it works . souds like you can put 3 boards per box with good protection.

look into Greyhound Bus shipping. Seriously!

…and unless your permanently relocating, taking 8 boards for a trip

sounds like a royal pain in the arse no matter how you slice it.

I would advertise on Craigslist or your local equivalent and try to find someone who is driving a truck or UHaul and might have extra space, then offer them $100 to take your boards.

Who knows, you might get lucky.

got to ship by this week. Anyone in satbch/ melbourne (FL) area have an account with a freight company??? without an account… im getting really high quotes from everone. So far nothing less then $300. This offer includes the standard 12pk bro-deal. thanks.

I recently had a board shipped from FL to CA that I sold on e-bay and that cost $90. Shipping is really expensive these days for anything. For the number of boards that you want to send you may not do any better.

I have a UPS account, but that doesn’t really get me better pricing. The deepest 96"x24" pkg that (according their web shipping tool) they will accept is 10". From Orlando to San Diego (guessing) would cost $120 per 96"x24"x10" pkg UPS Ground for residential pickup and delivery with the std $100 insurance. I’m guessing that 8 sticks could require up to 4 pkgs of that size. I have seen recommendations in the past for Greyhound, and I imagine Amtrak isn’t much different. I’d look into those options if you lack the time to arrange more informal transport (such as Keith’s suggestion).
