Shipping surfboards

I need to ship a board from California to the east coast. Looking for suggestions on where to find shipping materials ( boxes, ect.) and recommended services or methods ( I.e. Fed-ex,UPS,rail, air/truck freight, etc.)

i appreciate your input.

San Diego area, Mitch’s Surf Shop.     Try to ‘‘piggyback’’ your board with a manufacturer sending some of their boards east.

I recently had to ship a few boards from Oregon to south Florida.  Uline has surfboard boxes that are adjustable to any size board.  I ended up buying a dozen I think to get the price break, but they are nice.  Bubble wrap I got at Walmart.

As for shipping, I was turned on to a great alternative.  Amtrak.  They handle freight.  It was about $70 to ship a 7’6" from portland to Orlando.  They handle the boards much better than any shipper I have ever tried before.  The only down side is you have to drop the board at an Amtrak terminal and someone has to pick it up on the other end.  But for about 1/3 the cost quoted by Fedex or UPS it was not such a big deal.
