Shop Dogs

I love when I visit a shaper and he has a friendly shop dog just hanging around greeting people. Dogs are the best! However, how do you protect your best buddy from the dangers of the shop, like chemicals and foam dust from shortening their life. My wife is always harping on me to be sure he is not breathing all this stuff in, but you know he is. I dont think I have ever seen any other shapers doing much to prevent this. My dog will sleep just outside the shaping bay or glassing room, but I know dust and vapors are getting him. Should I be all that worried. I’m not full time shaper. He’s not getting exposed all that much.
What do you guys do?
Who is behind the scenes in your shops! I wanna see your waggly tail helpers

I kick her out when I’m making a bunch of dust. She’s great on the frisbee and on hikes, too.

She also likes jumping over and through stuff. Fun dog. Mike

No advice besides it’s a legit concern… loving the photos, keep 'em coming!

My 2 dogs don’t want anything to do with my shop. But the cat sleeps through most of the noise dust and smells

Anybody find stray dog/cat hairs in their glass jobs because of this?

I’ll bite at this one… 100lbs of fluff

That is one darn stinkin Handsome boy you have raised there, Tom! He looks wise beyond his years.
Luckily my boy has hair and not fur, so nothing too bad in the glass jobs. He doesnt shed. M<y cousin has a black lab that works in the same building and I will occasionally find one of those pesky hairs in my glass job. Worth it, dogs are so awesome!

I’m just waiting for someone to post a photo of some poor dog with it’s eyes bugged wide open and a great big “What the hell’s going on??!!??” look on it’s face.

Because it’s just knocked over a bucket of freshly mixed UV resin in the shed that’s drenched it and it’s run outside… and turned into a statue.

Cheers all!

How are you guys posting pictures?
I have pics of my shop dog on my phone but dunno how to post 'em.

file attachment

Hi crisp. I load them onto the computer from my phone then onto sways.Choose file-upload button.
I get dog hairs, cat hairs, fairly dust (moths), and rat piss on mine. I"m a garage builder. Mike

Nump

I dont know what happened to the rest of my last post. It got chopped.
Rooster, that girl of yours looks like she could run and play for days on end! My in laws have a pup that looks just like her, named Lady. Her and my boy are inseparable.
My cousin also brings his black lab Hunting dog to work in the same building every day. I definitely find a hair or two of his in my glass jobs from time to time. That dog is really cool, but hes all business. Doesnt know how to play for the life of him. He is so fixated on the ball or stick or duck or whatever.
I love that some of you guys have shop cats. Thats classic.
Keep the pics of your helpers coming. very much enjoying this thread.

Yeah, I don’t like the new setup for Sways. I usually have images hosted on an image hosting site (imgur, etc.) but now I can’t post pics unless I download them off of the hosting site and upload them here. Extra work.

Walking the dogs this evening.
The pit is Dexter, he’s the blood-spatter-specialist. Got him from our friends, we didn’t name him… He’s a good boy. Heels offleash, comes when called, submits. He goes to all the Swaylocks campouts and is generally best friends with everyone (dog or human) that he meets.

The teacup yorky/poodle is Riley. She’s a good girl. Comes when called, heels OK but gets distracted sometimes. She’s a hunter. At 6lbs, she will sniff out, hunt, chase, and kill anything smaller than her. I have caught her in our yard chewing on a fresh rodent carcass.

The view from the other direction…
Chest to HH, mid to low tide, a little crowded but lots of buoys. Plenny waves to go around. Beautiful lines. Some long left runners (my favorite).

Some more views from this evening’s walk…

Beautiful world, beautiful life.
Thankful for every minute of it.
