Seems the handful of boards I’ve made have all been, fish, or other big thick retro boards. Now that I’m finishing up a fish board for a customer, I’d like to change direction for the next couple of boards and do a couple of short boards. I personally dont ride traditional shortboards because I’m a big guy, over 6’. So here is the question I wanna lay out there and see what kind of responses I get.
I want to make 2 shortboards. What would be some dimensions that would be good to put on the local surf shop rack?
not sure, i’d say 6’1"x18.5x2
and 5’11"x18x2
For summer…
6’2 X 11 1/2 X 18 5/8 X 14 7/8 X 2 1/2
6’4 X 12 X 19.5 X 15 X 2 5/8
Standard squash tails, relaxed rockers, shallow single to double concaves, three fins… ho hum
Your about my size so I would say your shorty is a bout 6’8 to 7’2.
How often have you gone into a shop and seen one of these on the rack.
How many people are your size in your area.
If there are 6 6’1s on the rack and 1 gets sold there are 5. If there is 1 7’0 on the rack
and one gets sold it is yours.
for anybody or some one who is a big guy?
anybody, 6’0"x18.5x2.375x11.5x14.
Excellent way of looking at it.
The high performance thruster is a super refined shape.
To make a larger guys thruster would allow for much more leeway in your shapes dimensions and not be overlooked amongst the big name models.
6’3" x 18 5/8" x 2 5/8". 14 1/8" width in the tail and 11 1/4" in the nose. That’s all I can think of.
