This is my first board and I went the cheap and hard route glued eps, what do you think of the shape should I cut and go or rethink it? How does it look? thanks in advance.
It looks ok if you are considering a retro style. The design is meant to be ridden close to the nose. You could make the tail wider with more curve and it will be a good all around board.
Widen the tail, like everyone else says.
If the tail is too pulled, like yours, the swallow makes it really stiff and needing power and speed to turn.
Daddio- do you have the exact dims on that? nose width? Tail width? Widepoint? Board looks sweet…
the only thing i would say would be to smooth out the area just behind the widepoint, kinda has hips to it. but it looks like a killer board, alot like one i have.
This second fish shape was after my son “modernized” the template for beach breaks and point surf waves that he likes to surf. I pulled it off a digital photo of his actual board. We took the last template, that was made in Illustrator, printed it out and then he had me pull in the nose and tail. He wanted a thruster setup for in the pocket hold with slight hips and more rocker than a traditional fish. He is around 170lbs and at 18yrs old is near the prime of his paddling ability. This shape handles from 3’ to well overhead.

Thanks to all that responded to the post. The drawing over my picture was cool it must have taken a little time and effort. The suggestions posted were definately appreciated. The final shape will include your suggestions, a wider tail and smoother transition from the wide point. I am jonesing to cut it and get on with it but my backyard shaping and mess area are being transformed into thanksgiving dinner central so I have to contain myself. Thats the downfall of living in a 1 bedroom next to the surf.
Thanks again
