Should I fix this, and if so How? First Board Question

So I am shaping my first board and started to plane off the deck, after a while

I decided to turn the board over and try the other side when I noticed a piece of stringer

or should I say a fragment of stringer next to the stringer, sticking out like a splinter.

I pulled it out and this is the hole it left.

The hole is pretty deep. Should I fix it? If so how? (Was thinking spackle) Or should I just glass over it when I am done shaping it?

Here are two other pics of the design so far. It’s going to be a 5’11" Bat-tail Twinzer

Thanks for help with the hole question above. Please no comments on me shaping outside in the dark in my backyard.

Yes, you should fix it.

DAP Fast and Final light weight spackle. You can get at LOWES. You can Thin it with bottled water so that it will spread easier when you do the whole board.

is that a molded blank? It doesn’t look like a hotwire cut. who made it? is it 2.5 lbs foam?

It is a somewhat close tolerance eps blank for a fish. My buddy got it for me. I cut the design out with a saw.

I will ask about the other details and post them later.

Don’t worry too much about it yet, just proceed to shape your board and sand it as if the hole weren’t there. When you are happy with the final shape, seal the whole board with microspheres/microballoons. You could use spackle but I don’t, I’m a microsphere kinda guy…(sorry spackle lovers, I’m with doug on this one…)

It’s important not to fix it now because the different texture/hardness of your filler (spackle or microballoons) will interfere with your shaping. So really, don’t worry about any holes or dings untill the board is completely shaped the way you want it.

I agree… finish shaping, then decide what to do.

BTW… I always save the detail stuff (like wings and swallows) for the very end of the process… Less chance of an accident happening.

I just spackled a surfboard…

Weird…

This 2# EPS is weird stuff compared to the old Clark and Walker foam.

I’m going with the flow. back yard guy…A few beers and some spackle and some bottled water. The latest project looks good.

Different materials…Great surfboards!!!

I still love the old stuff but I’m willing to work with the new stuff!

Hey NY_SURFER…board looks good, more photos please…

The Blank is from Markofoam.com, the 6’1" Pescado Blank

As per your request. I think I took a little to much foam from the upper left section, oh well, first board. Next one will be better.
